Summer Nights via KCRW

KCRW (89.9 FM) kicks off their annual free all-ages outdoor concert series known as Summer Nights June 8th at One Colorado in Pasadena.

The series takes the station out of the studio and into the communities from Pasadena to the Pacific with live bands, DJs and more. SaturdayÕs lineup includes KCRW DJ Valida who will spin records at 7:30 and 9:00; in between will be a performance from a band called Hot As Sun.

HavenÕt heard of Hot As Sun? Based in Silverlake, the band is described by Billboard.Biz as Ōlusty electronic rock,Ķ and features a mix of drum and synthesizer sounds along with a good helping of what I would call mysterious vocals.

One Colorado is located in Old Pasadena, between Colorado, Union, Delacey and Fair Oaks. The official address is 24 East Union Street in Pasadena, 91103. Seventeen historic buildings sit on the site, mixing retailing, restaurants, and a courtyard within which the concert will be held.

This is just the first in a series of free concerts from KCRW; if youÕd like to find out more head on over to, or send a text message ŌSummerĶ to 69866 to get updates.

Demented Followup

Dr. Demento has agreed to be part of Michael StarkÕs series of career spanning interviews for his LA Radio Sessions internet audio series. Mike and I plan to interview the good Doctor on June 23rd at 2 PM. You can hear it live through or (after itÕs done) via iTunes. Eventually, the show will be heard on CSULBÕs student radio station K-Beach, which (if you own an HD radio) can be found on the HD-3 signal of K-Jazz (88.1 FM). IÕll have more information as we get closer to the interview date.

Going to the Dogs

KLOS (95.5 FM) morning personalities Heidi and Frank will host a pet adoption day June 8th from 10 AM to 4 PM at the SPCAÕs P.D. Pitchford Companion Animal Village and Education Center in Long BeachÕs El Dorado Park, 7700 East Spring Street.

Heidi and Frank will be there, as will the KLOS Cool Patrol that will provide music for the event.

SPCA-LA says that itÕs their biggest adoption event of the year, in which hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and rabbits can be adopted by a caring person or family. There will also be informational booths staffed with trainers, veternarians, and representatives of various companies from pet supplies to coffee and tea.

Coffee? For pets? Actually, it (and tea) is for humans, but my giant dog Marcus has been known to drink coffee, especially lattes or mochas. There will also be a silent auction benefiting the SPCA-LA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals of Los Angeles County), a pet valet that will take care of your dog while you look for a furry friend, and much much more.

And while IÕm on the subject, I have to say that, though I am not a regular listener, I do find Heidi and Frank entertaining when I do tune in occasionally on weekday mornings.
