Airwaves: October 8, 2010
Radio Townhall
KRLA (870 AM)) syndicated hosts Dennis Prager, Dennis Miller,
Michael Medved, Mike Gallagher and Kevin James are all gearing up
for a special Townhall 2010 ... an evening of conservative talk to be
held at the Alex Theater in Glendale on Sunday, October 17 at 5 PM.
Want to take part? Tickets start at $25 and go all the way up to $125 for a
VIP pass, which includes admission to a pre-show party in the lobby of the
theater from 3 to 4:15 PM. More information is available at www.krla870.com.
And if that isnt enough, Inland Empire sister station KTIE (590
AM) wants to Reclaim America through the Taking Back Congress
Tour, starring syndicated hosts Dennis Prager and Hugh Hewitt at the
Ontario Airport Doubletree Hotel on Monday, October 11 at 7 PM.
Tickets for this event are only $15 per person, while the VIP pass -- including
a meet and greet and better seating -- runs $39. More information for this
event can be found at www.590ktie.com.
Kindred to KABC
Perhaps programmer Jack Silver does have more up his sleeve. Steve Kindred,
for years heard on KFWB (980 AM) and more recently found part time on KFI (640
AM) has been selected as the afternoon news anchor on KABC (790 AM),
a position that at one time would have been unthinkable ... KABC has relied
far too long on network news feeds and barely allowed local coverage at all;
the hiring of Kindred may mean the station really does intend to go after dominant
talker KFI. At least in news coverage.
Hopefully this also means that Silver is looking to dump some of the syndicated
hosts who are holding the station back.
Kindred begins his new journey later this month.
Speaking of KABC
As expected, the return of Larry Elder to KABC has brought happiness
to his many fans. Perhaps reader Virginia Carrigan stated it best when she
wrote in an email,
Yeah for the return of Larry Elder! I love his humor, wit and intelligent
subjects -- I learn much from him. Im sorry he is on at the same time as
Rush Limbaugh on KFI (9 AM to noon), as I like them both. Larry has the best
laugh on the airwaves ... he really does.
Not that everyone is happy. As far as I am concerned, its just
(cable televisions) Fox News on the radio, wrote Connie Garrison. I
do like Peter Tilden and Doug McIntyre, but I find Mark Levine to be as hateful
as anyone on the air and he and Sean Hannity certainly distort the news. So
the only time I listen to KABC is when Tilden, McIntyre and the on-the-hour
news is on.
Which of course brings me back to my suggestion given to programmer Silver
earlier in this very column ...
